About UMMAM
For 35 years, United Methodist Mexican American Ministries has provided medical and social programs to thousands of people in Southwest Kansas. A non profit service agency, UMMAM serves people of all races, colors and faiths. UMMAM is supported through state and federal grants, as well as the generous donations of local churches, organizations and citizens. medical

All UMMAM programs -- dental and medical clinics, oral health screening and education, social services such as the food bank, clothing room, emergency assistance, and citizenship classes, immunizations, early literacy, health education and outreach -- are designed to improve the lives and health status of individuals and families, thus building a stronger community.

Medical Services
In addition to our family practice medical clinic, the UMMAM immunization program protects children from disease and allows access to shots and TB testing/follow-up required for entry into day care and/or school and often for work. UMMAM also provides on-site immunizations for various Finney County businesses as well as at schools and for school employees.

HIV/AIDS testing is provided without charge for community members. Case management is provided as requested. Regular HIV/AIDS treatment clinics at UMMAM are provided by Kansas University School of Medicine, Wichita. Diabetes outreach and education is provided for community members as well as UMMAM clients. Our women's health program, Early Detection Works, provides free or low cost breast and cervical cancer screenings.

Social Services
Social services and education strengthen community life by helping with family education and basic necessities of life such as food and shelter. Emergency assistance with rent and/or utilities allows families to stay in their homes. food pantryUMMAM coordinates with The Salvation Army to reduce duplication of services. UMMAM also makes/takes referrals for a variety of services with Kansas Children’s Service League and Russell Child Development Services. UMMAM works with RSVP as a site for a VITA worker.

UMMAM also offers parenting classes, and summer children's programs such as day camps and Vacation Bible School sessions.

Vacation Bible School -- Each summer the youth from Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church make the trek to Garden City to host Vacation Bible School. The days are filled with fun and learning for Garden City area youth. A fun time for all!


PAT

Parents as Teachers -- our parenting program helps many families learn effective ways of teaching and discipline. Weekly play groups, group meetings and childhood screenings encourage a child's healthy development.
