About UMMAM
For 35 years, United Methodist Mexican
American Ministries has provided medical and social programs
to thousands of people in Southwest Kansas. A non profit service
agency, UMMAM serves people of all races, colors and faiths. UMMAM
is supported through state and federal grants, as well as the
generous donations of local churches, organizations and citizens.
All UMMAM programs -- dental and medical clinics,
oral health screening and education, social services such as
the food bank, clothing room, emergency assistance, and citizenship
classes, immunizations, early literacy, health education and
outreach -- are designed to improve the lives and health status
of individuals and families, thus building a stronger community.
Medical Services
In addition to our family practice medical
clinic,
the UMMAM immunization program protects children from disease and
allows access to shots and TB testing/follow-up required for
entry into day care and/or school and often for work. UMMAM also
provides on-site immunizations for various Finney County businesses
as well as at schools and for school employees.
HIV/AIDS testing
is provided without charge for community members. Case management
is provided as requested. Regular HIV/AIDS treatment clinics
at UMMAM are provided by Kansas University School of Medicine,
Wichita. Diabetes outreach and education
is provided for community members as well as UMMAM clients. Our
women's health program, Early Detection
Works, provides free
or low cost breast and cervical cancer screenings.
Social Services
Social services and education
strengthen community life by helping with family education and
basic necessities of life such as food and shelter. Emergency
assistance with rent and/or utilities allows families to stay
in their homes. UMMAM coordinates with The Salvation Army to reduce
duplication of services. UMMAM also makes/takes referrals for a
variety of services with Kansas Children’s
Service League and Russell Child Development Services. UMMAM works
with RSVP as a site for a VITA worker.
UMMAM also offers parenting classes, and summer
children's programs such as day camps and Vacation Bible School
sessions.
