Ways UMMAM has helped...

Our parenting classes have become very successful. There are so many of God's children hurting due to mental or physical abuse and we have to do what we can to prevent it or/and end it.

Through these classes, I've found that parents love their children deeply, they just do not know how to discipline them. They use the same method of discipline their own parents used and that is not necessarily good. Their parents meant well but they didn't know better.

We have no power over the violence that is hurting our world, but we have something to say about ending the violence at home. Let's give these parents some good Christian rules of discipline, let's empower them and through prayer, praise and good rules to follow have well adjusted children so they can grow up to serve God.

One of our highlights this summer was helping a young Guatemalan girl who showed up at our clinic seeking medical attention for her sick child. She had no one to help her with her newborn baby. No support system whatsoever.

All she knew was that her child was sick and she needed to do something quickly. The baby was referred to the hospital and admitted for surgery. I stayed with this frightened mother during surgery and became her new friend.

She told me about her hard life in Guatemala and her dreams to one day come to the U.S. She felt so blessed that her baby was in the United States and that he could receive good medical attention. This tiny little baby and his mother have touched so many hearts throughout the community!

I have been keeping in touch with them and they are doing just fine. Although their living conditions could be better, this young mom feels so blessed to have her healthy baby boy in her arms and I feel blessed that I was able to help them in their time of need.
