SPECIAL SERVICES
These services are not included in above figures. Most programs operate
at multiple MAM sites and counties.
Lifetime Smiles Dental Outreach: 11,300 children in
52 schools/clinics/daycares/ preschools (13 counties) were screened
for visual oral decay. Of these, 3,812 (34%) were referred to a dentist
for follow-up. MAM provided $ 4,442 for dental care for 62 children/adults
without any other access; 101 children received 386 free sealant
treatments and 2,066 children received free fluoride varnish treatments;
Staff did 27 presentations and distributed over 30,000 toothbrushes,
oral health pamphlets, sippy cups, and other materials.
Early Detection Works (Breast/Cervical Cancer Program): Covers 31 counties;
620 mammograms; 647 CBEs; 84 abnormal or indeterminate; 5 breast cancer;
10,227 individual and group contacts; ;
Diabetes Outreach & Education: Covers 8 counties; 432 screened;
245 registered dietitian instruction; 637 attended presentation/group
educational meetings; 2,703 reached through health fairs; eye exams
-91; foot exams -86; glucometers, 50.
HIV Outreach/Education: Covers 24 counties; 744 visits; 411 tested;
89 presentations and workshops; media campaign reached over 9,500.
HIV/AIDS Case Management: Covers 24 counties; Caseload 38 HIV+ and
64 HIV-affected clients. The program also provides treatment clinics
with Dr. Donna Sweet , plus food boxes, Boost, and limited housing
assistance.
Farmworker Case Management: Covers 35 counties; 2,642 registrations;
1,809 unduplicated clients; This program assists migrant and seasonal
farmworkers with medical/dental care and treatment plus case management.
Prenatal Case Management/Parents As Teachers: 200 women received extra
case management, including 208 home/hospital visits, prenatal classes,
and hospital/home phone calls regarding concerns or problems. PAT holds
weekly playgroup sessions and does regular home visiting. Average caseload:
29 families.
Reach Out and Read Early Literacy: Covers four counties. Books distributed
in conjunction with well-child medical visits for 6 months – 3
years; books also distributed to older children.
Wellness Program: 62 staff enrolled/58 completed; 128 client enrolled/92
completed; Project included eating 4-6 servings of vegetables/fruits
per day, walking at least 1,000 additional steps each day, and setting/reaching
one personal health goal; Served as one of the sponsors for Corporate
Meltdown.
